Resilience, as defined in Webster Dictionary, is “the ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change. The ability to absorb energy (such as from a blow) and release that energy as it springs back to its original shape.” We have experienced a mighty blow to our lives through the energy force known as the COVID-19 Pandemic. We have been isolated from family and friends, struck with unexpected death of loved ones, the continued ugly head of racism, and the unprecedented political unrest. Through all of life’s weapons of attempts to destroy a people, we have bonded with our families, connected personally with ourselves, and determined our purpose to strengthen our communities. Resilience: We Rise is a musical production focused on the effects of 2020 and our ability to bounce back. This stage performance will bring thought provoking spoken word, expressive dance connected to our experience, and melodious vocals to open our world view. Resilience: We Rise is written, choreographed, and co-directed by Monica L Armstrong and Kendall Bedford-Jackson while presented by the brilliant youth of Trinity Conservatory of Performing Arts.
